Sketching and painting has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. My paintings are a reflection of those places and images that strike an emotional chord with me. Rather than photographic representation, I strive to create an expression of feeling and mood. Because of my love of nature and being outdoors, I am primarily a plein air painter, painting on location as opposed to painting from a photograph. The constant challenge of struggling with nature’s elements of wind, heat, cold, and changing light, while trying to capture a feeling or mood, never grows old. Each painting is a new, frustrating, and joyful experience. Oil is my preferred medium as its fluid qualities allow me to paint with spontaneity and richness of color.
My formal training includes studying with such distinguished artists as Dick Turner, Houston, Texas; David Lefel, New York City; notable plein air artists Ken Auster, John Eagle, George Strickland; impressionist painter, Guido Frick, and many others.
My paintings have been exhibited at the Long Beach Museum of Art; Michael Levy Gallery, Long Beach; the Studio in Long Beach; the Art Center, Grand Junction; at local juried art shows where they have won numerous awards; and currently at Midland Arts Company, Rifle, Colorado.
I am a member of the Brush and Palette Club, Grand Junction, the Colorado Plein Air Painters, and the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.
